CulinaryCulinary schools prepare you for a wide array of culinary jobs by teaching you the skills of a master chef through actual practice. Many schools will train you in supervising and management skills, both of which are necessary for nearly all culinary jobs. These schools can also teach you menu planning, portion sizing, food purchases and cost control, and how to use leftover food. Each of these skills is also necessary for successful employment in culinary jobs.

Graduates of these schools can find culinary jobs in restaurants as well as in eating and drinking establishments. Other culinary jobs can be in institutions that have cafeterias such as universities, hospitals, schools and nursing homes, hotels, and many other locations.

The culinary industry is a large employer, with the demand for trained cooks and chefs growing. Some of the culinary jobs one may obtain are: cooks who prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods, chefs and specialist chefs who prepare and cook complete meals, banquets, or other type foods, chefs who supervise the activities of special chefs and kitchen workers, and culinary jobs as chefs who plan and direct food preparations for multiple locations.

Culinary schools are expanding since there is an increase in the need for workers in culinary jobs. The California Culinary Arts Academy, for example, offers a course in casino management. The Art Institute of New York City offers courses in the study of forming practices, global food distributions, and health, as well as other areas of study that focus on the social, political, and economic issues related to food.

Some of the skills needed to find culinary jobs as a master include being able to follow detailed instruction, a well developed sense of taste and smell, personal cleanliness, and the ability to work as part and direct a larger kitchen team. These are all skills that are incorporated into the classes taught in culinary schools, which lead to the ability to attain culinary jobs in this area. Culinary professionals, as part of their jobs, also need to have good dexterity and hand-eye coordination and be comfortable working for extended periods of time while standing. Many states also require kitchen workers with culinary jobs to obtain a certificate demonstrating that they are free from any communicable disease.
